Features to know about

Installs Without Cutting or Splicing: Plug-In T-Connector

Wiring for trailer lights is simple with this Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness. It plugs directly into the factory tail light connectors, giving you a 4-pole flat trailer connector without having to cut or splice a single wire. Everything fits cleanly, and it’s ready to go as soon as you plug it in.

Keeps Trailer Lights Working Right: Built-In Converter

The harness has an integrated converter that makes sure your trailer lights get the correct signals for running, brake, and turn lights. It takes care of the difference between vehicle and trailer wiring systems so your lights stay bright and in sync every time you tow.

Handles Grounding the Right Way: Solid Metal-to-Metal Connection

Good grounding is key to avoiding dim or flickering lights. This harness connects securely with a clean metal-to-metal ground point, helping current flow properly through both the vehicle and trailer circuits. When everything’s grounded right, your lighting stays strong and consistent on the road.

Ready for Everyday Towing: Standard 4-Flat Connector

The 4-flat plug gives you all the basics—running lights, brake lights, and turn signals—in a universal connector that fits most small and mid-size trailers. It’s durable, easy to unplug when not in use, and stays protected with a good connection every time you hook up your trailer.

Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our Curt T-connector Vehicle Wire Harness with our four pole trailer connector. Now folks, this is a custom fit application. It fits a 01 through 2006 Mitsubishi Montero. Double check that though with our fit guide here at etrailer.com. Top center of our homepage, enter your year, make and model and any kind of other information it asks you to ensure you're getting the correct parts the first time.

Now folks, this will provide you with a nice four pole flat connector or a four-way, some people call it, at the back of your vehicle. And that'll let you plug in your trailer and then in turn, power up your trailer's turn signals and lights. It is technically compatible with a five, six, or seven pull adapter. You can get those separately here at etrailer.com. And it's a quick, no splice, no drill connection.

So at the back of your vehicle in the cargo area, you're gonna pull off a couple panels per the instructions. Follow those and you'll unplug the taillight connector. You'll plug one of these guys back into the taillight and you'll plug the taillight connector in the other one. So that's why they call it a T-connector. It's making the letter T, very simple plug and play connection.

Super simple. Now you've got this black box here and a double sided adhesive that would go on here and get pressed into the vehicle behind one of those panels, again per the instructions. And this guy is what they call your brain of the the whole kit or the surface mount technology. It's gonna give you consistent, reliable output of voltage and amperage. And it's also gonna con protect the vehicle against back feed.

The max amperage on your stop turn lights is three amps per circuit, while five amps per circuit's gonna be on your taillights. You do also get a ground wire here to ground it to the metal frame of the vehicle. You got a nice self tapper here to do that. You also get a dust cap to go over the four pole connection whenever it's installed and all the zip ties to install it. Now once this is installed in your cargo area, it does actually come out and go underneath the vehicle. So I recommend getting an electrical mounting bracket that's sold separately here at etrailer. The first one I recommend is what they call a short bracket. It's 18140 and it has a hose clamp included that's gonna get you around the hitch and it's going to mount up to and mate with a C42CR connector. And those two mounting brackets together will let you mount this up out of the way, nice and tight and clean next to the hitch tube on the hitch itself. That way you never have to look for it whenever you're hooking up your trailer. Folks, that's gonna wrap it up. You got a nice one year limited warranty with this connector today. And I am Steven, thank you so much again for your time. Stay safe out there, as always while you're towing.

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero
Hey Rene, thanks for the information. To add a hitch to your 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, you'll want the Curt item # C13800. This is a class III, custom fit hitch with a 2" receiver, that includes all necessary hardware to bolt onto your Montero. It will not fit the Sport models and I do not have an option for a hitch that does. For a wiring harness, I recommend the Curt T-Connector item # C55380. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Mitsubishi's wiring harness, which is located behind...

  • Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited
Hi Jason, The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness w/4-pole flat part # HM11142365 is no longer available because the company that produced them is no longer in business. If there are any still available through other retailers, they're likely increased in price due to them not being manufactured anymore. I wouldn't say that Hopkins is better than Curt, I think their harnesses are very similar. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness w/4-pole Flat part # C55380 is the best...

  • Trailer Hitch for 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited
We do indeed offer Class III receiver hitches for the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero and Montero Sport (two distinctly different vehicles). For the 2001 Montero, use the Curt Class # C13800 III hitch. If you'll be towing with the hitch you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # C55380 a ball mount like # C45010 and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball. For the 2001 Montero Sport, you'd use the Curt Class III, part # 13223. For trailer wiring, use # 119178KIT and the...

  • How to Install Tekonsha P3 Electronic Brake Controller, Part # 90195, in 2001 Mitsubishi Montero
Brake controller installation requires the following items: a brake controller, a 7-Way or 6-Way installation kit, either part # ETBC7 or # ETBC6 (depending on which connector is on your trailer) and a flat 4-pole trailer connector if one is not already installed at the rear of your Montero. The 4-pole trailer connectors are vehicle specific; the part for your Montero is # C55380. I have included links to all of these parts. Installation of a brake controller is described in the three...

  • Trailer Lights Dim When Headlights and Turn Signal are Used on 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Using C55380
It sounds like you have a ground issue. You will want to start off by checking all of the grounds on your trailer and making sure that they are securely connected with a clean metal-to-metal connection. Rust and sometimes paint can sometimes cause issues with wiring. Checking the ground on your 2001 Mitsubishi Montero is a good idea as well. Since it really sounds like a faulty ground connection, I doubt it is the converter unit in the Curt # C55380, but you can check that too by using...
